In episode 7 of the Next Step to Success podcast, Darrell Dromgoole talks with Anthony Netardus, a DeWitt County Coordinator and Extension Agent in Ag and Natural Resources. They discuss the elements of Program Area Committees (PACs) and share tips on how agents can better serve their committees.
In this episode, Anthony explains how the main purpose of PACs are to identify issues. He believes the members on PACs are out in the community and are able to identify issues. Members should be the “right people”, meaning they are diverse, have an understanding of what is going on in the area, and want to see changes and education happen in the county. Finding those passionate visionaries to be a part of the committee is important to help agents provide timely and accurate educational programs.
Darrell and Anthony share some tips on working with PACs, such as, scheduling meetings around the needs of the committee members, prepare and put an organized agenda together, write-up the minutes from the meeting before, be knowledgeable about what is going on in the community, and ask probing questions.
